At next Monday’s Zoom meeting, our keynote speaker is Sara Hughes, a well-known artist who has exhibited here and Australia.  Canadian born, Sara completed her MFA in painting at the Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland.  Her paintings and works are held in many public and private collections, including the Chartwell Collection, The Auckland City Art Gallery Toi-o-Tamaki, Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington, the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra, and the Gallery of NSW in Sydney.  Sara’s work has attracted significant attention and in 2005 she won both the Wallace Art Award, and the Norsewear Art Award.  Sara has also been selected to participate in a number of notable residences, including the Francis Hodgkins Fellowship in 2003, the International Studio and Curatorial Program in New York in 2007, and the Creative New Zealand Berlin Visual Artists residency at the Kristlerhaus Bethanien in 2008/2009.  Sara has undertaken a number of high profile public commissions which include ‘Magna’, a large 500m 2 painting in Auckland, some striking outdoor works for the re-opening of Cathedral Square in Christchurch, and her most recent work, which has been installed on all four elevations of the New Zealand International Convention Centre in Auckland. It is the largest public work in New Zealand, but unfortunately had to be dismantled due to  the remedial work required after the Convention Centre fire.  Sara will speak on the Convention Centre commission and some of her other work.  This will definitely be a ‘colourful presentation’.
