Today, Monday 5th August is Universal Peace day, (Hiroshima Peace Day).  Rotary International's President Mark Maloney 2019 theme is that "Rotary Connects the World".  Being part of Rotary, we remind ourselves that we to have an objective of Peace, and we participate in a world-wide community of members, with a shared goal for Peace.  The goal of laying down of weapons and living in harmony around world.

Sadly, we woke up yesterday to hear of another mass-shooting in a Texas shopping mall. "Mass-shooting" has become such a common event in the news these days that we can become numb to the horrific numbers of the reported dead.  But while a shooting like this is often referred to as a mass-shooting, I think it is better reported as 20 individual murders, of innocent shoppers in a Walmart store.  Twenty families losing a loved one in an act that beggars belief. In a world where everyone is our neighbour, a criminal act like this occurring in a corner of Texas, is no longer as far away as it used to be.  A Skype or Facetime call, and we too can be talking with friends and colleagues in US, or anywhere in the world.  The impact of a crime like this can best be countered by every action we take to promote peace and stop war.

We hope to see you at today’s meeting to hear Past-President Brett O'Riley give an Economic update.

RCA LinkedIn Update
We have decided to increase the Club's presence on LinkedIn by creating a public LinkedIn page that can be accessed by anyone - rather than the "closed" LinkedIn Group we currently have, which can only be accessed by invitation.  We will therefore be closing the old Group down.  For those of you in the old LinkedIn Group, we hope you will take the time to transfer to our new page.  If you are not currently connected to the Club through LinkedIn, now is your opportunity to do so.  Simply click on the link below and then click the follow button. We hope you will enjoy the fresher look and content of our new page - https://www.linkedin.com/company/rotary-club-of-auckland/
