Kia ora Members,

In our new way of connecting,  we are getting used to "meeting" online these days.  Personally,  I have been self-isolating since returning from Australia 18 days ago.  I have developed a rhythm of ensuring I keep my days as structured as possible.  Eating meals at the normal time, taking coffee breaks, walking the dog, and trying to get some time off Zoom,  where I seem to spend half my life at the moment.  There is a growing sense of everybody pulling together.  People are volunteering to help the lock-ins, companies are discounting their services, people are offering up time for free,  things we used to go out to do are now being sent to us through videos.  As a Rotary Club,  we have the opportunity to lend a hand.  There are a growing number of people who are relying on food deliveries as they are unable to go shopping,  either as they are self-isolating and are not allowed to leave their home, they are sick or immune compromised.  There are opportunities for members to help do shopping and collect medicines for our nearby neighbours.
I've been talking with other Club Presidents about how they are operating, and like these Clubs our Rotary Club is looking to set up an online meetings.  This has been used successfully by some of our neighbouring Clubs to hold their regular meetings.  We are co-ordinating with some speakers and will be aiming to hold our first meeting on Monday 13th on Easter Monday.  We have decided that in the unusal case of everybody being stuck in lock-down we should get together for fellowship anyway and provide members with an activity on this holiday.
We would like a include a guest speaker for 30 minutes - if you have any suggestions you would like to speak,  please contact myself of Jacqui.
Our plan would be to send everyone in the Club an invite, using the Rotary District Zoom invitation to the Lunch meeting at 12:30pm.  Members can login, and we can run a meeting, with the fellowship, but without the food.  This will give the chance to see each other on their Zoom calls, which will have a positive impact on peoples’ day and maintain our fellowship as a Club.  Similarly, we will schedule our committee meetings on the same basis.
While there are some concerns that some members may find it difficult to log-in to Zoom for the first time, we want to assure you, it is at simple 1 step "click-the-link" to Login, which can be accessed from either a smartphone or any desktop or laptop.  In addition, it will be important that members who are learning Zoom for the first time that there are folk that they can ring for help if they need to.  Almost every Zoom call that I have been on in the last week has had a "first time user",  and people are adapting to using Zoom  very rapidly.  It is very comparable to face-timing family and friends.  Finally, it will be a good opportunity for coaching any of our members on how to use Zoom.
In addition to Zoom meetings we are looking for additional postings for our Bulletin. To widen our weekly reading material, we would like members to contribute to the following new sections of the Bulletin – please forward to Jacqui ( or 027 27 27 999):
  • My Bubble pic of the week  - quality photos of your Bubble activities
  • Share a new Recipe
  • The 5 minute topic - a written commentary piece by members replacing the normal 5 minute speaker slot at Rotary lunch – which can be a short bio of your life, a volunteer programme you are involved with, the trip of your lifetime, etc.
  • Book reviews
  • Quiz
  • Link of the Week to humorous stories / articles
Also, please read below the announcement from Jackie Hinchcliff for Give Every Child a Future.
Have a good week in your bubble.

No Monday Meetings Until Further Notice
After serious deliberation in the current climate, it has been decided to cancel all upcoming RCA meetings and events until at least May, when the situation will be reviewed.  This decision has not been taken lightly.
These are difficult times and we must all be aware of Covid-19 and take protective steps wherever possible. Keep well and safe and stay close to home.
I will still be online ( or you can ring me on 027 27 27 999 (office phone currently out of action due to equipment problems) if you have any queries.
