Our speaker last Monday was André Lovatt from Auckland Airport.  Amongst the 800 projects he has to juggle over the next 15 years valued in excess of 28 billion dollars, he has to build a new International Terminal wing, rebuild the Domestic Terminal along-side the current International terminal and build the Northern runway.  It seemed a massively complex task, and we received insights into the many ways the Airport is changing its infrastructure to accommodate our future travel requirements.
This week Rotary International announced  Nigeria, as one of the three remaining Polio countries, has been declared Polio Free.  On 21st August, Nigeria reached the 3 year milestone of no reported cases.  The two remaining countries still to wipe out Polio are Afghanistan and Pakistan, who have had 133 cases in the last three years.  We are raising funds for "End Polio Now" on 1 November with collectors at Britomart Station.  Keep the date for your opportunity to volunteer for a hour or two.

Retirement Village Living Implications
On Thursday 19 September there will be a free community education event about  the implications of retirement village living (the Commission is an autonomous Crown agency, offers objective, impartial information - this is not a marketing event).  The seminar discusses, in very frank and robust terms, the personal, legal and financial implications that need to be considered before becoming a retirement village  resident.  The venue will be the Auckland Bridge Club, 273 Remuera Road, 10am tea, start 10.30am, finishing around midday.  Registration is free and important because seats fill quickly.  People can register online at or by calling Paul Niccolini on 021 565 321.
Rotary Walk for Spring – 29 September
Our District has organised a walk to welcome in Spring.  If you would like to be involved – family and friends are also welcome, then please show up on the day to participate.   This will be about a 5km walk, ending back where we started at the café, so those wanting to stay & socialize more can also enjoy refreshments.
Date & Time: Sunday 29 September, 9am start (and also the morning that daylight saving starts)
Venue: Cornwall Park Café (lots of parking)
District 9920 Conference 15 – 17 May 2020
This Conference will have a carefully crafted programme that will inspire and entertain you and will be held in the University of Auckland’s Owen G Glenn Building, which has superb facilities and plentiful underground parking.  There will also be an exciting pre-Conference programme whether on the harbour, on the golf course, exploring Auckland or relaxing on Waiheke Island.
2020 Rotary International Convention
Next year’s RI Convention will be held in Honolulu, Hawaii from Monday 6 until Friday 10 June 2020.  For more information and to register, go to:
