I know many of you enjoyed Monday lunch with Auckland Mayoral aspirant John Tamihere and his running mate Christine Fletcher. It was very informative and entertaining.  I had personally not considered the commercial negotiating skills of John Tamihere in terms of his ability to leverage central government.  It will no doubt be an interesting campaign and we have current Mayor Phil Goff addressing the Club on Monday 6 May.

Our five minute speaker was Peter Salmon from the Rotary Club of Remuera, talking about their Fiji Oxygen project.  Please check out this projects details at https://rotaryremuera.club/page/the-fiji-oxygen-project/

We also sadly acknowledged the passing of Geoffrey Amos from the Taveuni Rotary Club, who has been a great partner of our Club and many others. Geoffrey will be sadly missed as will his enormous contribution to the people of Fiji.

Please get your nominations in for RYLA, this is such a great leadership training opportunity for young people.

Have a great Easter and remember there is no meeting next Monday.  The following Monday (29 April), our speaker will be Ludo-Campbell-Reid, Design Champion for Auckland and General Manager of the Auckland Council Design Office.

New Interact Club - Epsom Girls' Grammar
On Tuesday 2 April at 8.30am, our Club is sponsoring the charter of a new Interact Club at Epsom Girls’ Grammar.  Members are invited to attend and if interested, please let Jackie Hinchcliff know by Monday afternoon, as attendees will need to check into the school office/reception on Silver Road around 8am.  Jackie’s email address is jackiehinchrotary@gmail.com

Rotary Interact Clubs are for young people aged 12 to 18, who want to join together to tackle the issues in their community that they most care about.  Our Club has already chartered an Interact Club at Auckland Grammar School, which grows each year (currently about 130 members) and their latest project was to raise funds for victims of the tragic events in Christchurch and they raised $3791.40 – a fantastic response from students and staff.

Job Opportunity
RCA member Jacqui Bensemann is looking for someone to fill a position within her organisation (Argus Fire) and you may know of someone who would be interested.  The role is for a Casual Office Administrator to help out on reception whenever the Receptionist takes leave or has to help out in another area.  This means the work would be intermittent and not part time, so it would suit a retiree.  They have already advertised through the usual channels, but the bulk of applicants were after a permanent or part time role.   If you know of anyone who might be interested, then please contact Diana Dempsey at (09) 972 9856 or ddempsey@argusfire.co.nz

2019 RI Convention – Hamburg, Germany
The Rotary International's 2019 Convention will be held in Hamburg, Germany from 1 to 5 June.  There are already nearly 30 people from different NZ Clubs attending, including RCA President Brett O’Riley and myself.  If you’d like to know more about this event and are possibly interested in joining us, would like to fly with and/or stay with other NZ Rotarians in Hamburg, let me know or reach out directly to the District Coordinator for this Convention: Jennie Herring: herringjennie@gmail.com  Or if you would like to register, then please go here.  If you register prior to Dec. 15, 2018, you will receive an early-registration discount, which is US$395 vs. US$495 or US$595 at later dates.  District Governor Ingrid Waugh, also mentioned the possibility of a 10-day “Zurich-to-Amsterdam Cruise” leading up to the convention  and Jennie Herring can help us get the black shirts that all the NZers wear - which will really make us stand out!  So please let us know if you are interested in attending, so we can organise a couple of fun Kiwi/RCA activities, while in Hamburg!  And also feel free to run any questions by us
